Around 11pm daily, G Subbulakshmi packs her car with cartons of biscuits and bread and rushes to the Marina. Along the stretch from Anna Square to Labour Statue, net less than 100 dogs await her goodies. She then heads to Mylapore, feeds a few more strays before going home.
The Washermenpet deputy commissioner of police, who has been doing this since March 24, says she was inspired by her daughter V G Tamish during Chennai floods. Subbulakshmi now ensures water bowls at the police stations where she is posted and also feeds them. She and her daughter diligently cook food for the dogs and even send it through friends to distribute.
